Introducing the Zaxcom 200 Series

The new Zaxcom 200 Series Digital Wireless products promise one major advancement over previous models: distance! Their website recently released a video showcasing the TRXLA2 transmitter broadcasting clear across the Hudson River from New York City to a QRX235 receiver in Hoboken, New Jersey. As a recent transplant from NYC, I can attest that despite the direct line of sight, that is one helluva gap! Glenn Sanders and Jack Norflus claim that the new systems can operate at four times the range of their predecessors.

The new TRXLA2 and TRXLT2 are both wide-band transmitters, covering four frequency blocks, either 512 – 614 MHz or 596 – 698 MHz. They are available in both mono and stereo configurations. Their new proprietary RF modulation feature is responsible for the increase in operation distance. The TRXLA2 retains all the features of the now discontinued TRX900LA, including NeverClip, PowerRoll, and Zaxnet. It also features user-selectable 25, 50, and 125W output power options. The TRXLT2 serves as an update to the TRX900LT, but retains the internal microSD recording, NeverClip, and Zaxnet features. The TRXLT2 has user-selectable 10, 25, and 50W output power options.

The new receivers, QRX235 and QRX200, also incorporate the RF modulation feature for enhanced operating distance. The QRX235, successor to the QRX100, comes in standard frequency blocks and is available with the QIFB option. The QRX200 features a 35 MHz tuneable tracking filter, which can be used anywhere in the 8 frequency blocks between 512 and 700 MHz. Zaxcom’s video claims that these new models are able to receive signal with only a 7dB clearance above interfering noise.

These new transmitters relay 24-bit/48kHz digital audio with a higher, 126dB dynamic range. The receivers output balanced AES digital audio or line-level analog audio on TA5 connectors with 0.001% distortion.
