Schoeps KMIT — Shotgun capsule for the modular Colette series. Derived directly from the CMIT series and inherits its acoustic properties, such as high directivity combined with low coloration of sound arriving from the side. Directivity increases very evenly with frequency. In use, the KMIT, CMIT 5, and MiniCMIT can be interchanged without resulting in changes to the sound.

Available by itself or as a Set with either a CMC 1 U or CMD 42 Digital Amplifier. Sets include premium case and accessories.

Schoeps KMIT Overview

The KMIT brings the unparalleled acoustic qualities of the CMIT series to the modular Colette series. It is compatible with all amplifiers of the Colette series, i.e., with the current analog amplifiers CMC 6 and CMC 1, as well as with the digital amplifier CMD 42. This means that SCHOEPS now offers a digital shotgun that can be controlled with the Remote App for the first time.

The characteristics of the KMIT capsule are only slightly dependent on the amplifier used. The sound of the KMIT is essentially the same with any amplifier (as in the CMIT 5/MiniCMIT). The choice between CMC 6, CMC 1 U/L, or CMD 42 is consequently determined by the practical characteristics.

The KMIT is the first capsule with an interference tube in the 50-year history of SCHOEPS’ Colette series. The triumphant success of Schoeps shotgun microphone began in 2005 with the CMIT 5, which is still considered the industry standard today. During development, great importance was attached to the uniform off-axis frequency response. Known to connoisseurs as “the blue one”, the microphone has since become a trademark of professional film sound engineering. Its capsule was used in two other microphones: the smaller, lighter MiniCMIT (2016) and the digital SuperCMIT (2010) with its two selectable, extremely narrow polar patterns, which are created by an additional rear-facing capsule and digital signal processing. The development of the KMIT is the next logical step: the fusion of the two most important Schoeps series, Colette and CMIT.

About Colette Modular Microphone Series

In 1973 Schoeps introduced the first professional Modular Condenser Microphone System with active elements to the world. The Colette Modular System, now commonly referred to as the “CMC Series” is still to this day the most extensive and versatile microphone system ever conceived. Modular “Colette” microphones consist of the combination of two basic units: a microphone capsule and amplifier body.

Active accessories can be connected between the capsule and amplifier of a Colette series microphone. Cut filters, pads, extension tubes, remote cables and capsule swivels are some common examples. The number of possible CMC/MK combinations is quite large–there are 18 types of microphone capsule and 3 basic types of amplifier. With very few exceptions, any type of capsule can be used with any type of amplifier.
