Description
DPA 6066 CORE Subminiature Headset Microphone
The DPA 6066 is a subminiature professional headset microphone suitable for all-day wearing. IP58 rating provides excellent resilience to water and sweat. The microphone’s functional cap can be easily removed for cleaning.
The capsule of the 6066 CORE Subminiature Headset is just 3 mm (0.12 in) in diameter, but packs the audio power of larger, award-winning DPA mics. Despite its small size, it is abundant in clarity, consistency, and durability – three qualities that truly matter. By shrinking the CORE by DPA technology, you are ensured that you don’t have to compromise on sound to focus on aesthetics.
Beyond this minimized size and maximized sound potential, these mics also sport a completely redesigned, lightweight, one-size-fits-all headset that attaches over the ears for maximum comfort. 3-point ear grips with spring mechanisms help grip below the ears and to the side of the head for added security. A 2-way adjustable boom system (length and height) with an anti-rotate mechanism makes this new headset very easy to fit. A new 90° cable management system safeguards the cable and directs it down the wearer’s back, where it can’t be seen.
Between the sound quality and the comfort, once you try it we’re sure you’ll never want to wear another headset mic solution.
IP58 Certified
The DPA 6066 is IP58 certified. This durability is achieved through a number of defense mechanisms:
- Water-repellant nano-coating of the cover and housing
- Hermetic sealing of the sensitive amplifier at the core of the mic
- Dual gold plating of the diaphragm
DPA 6066 Features
- Amazing 3 mm CORE by DPA capsules technology
- Renowned DPA sound in a 60% smaller capsule
- One-size-fits-all, headset fits securely and comfortably
- 2-way adjustable, non-reflective boom with locking system
- Unique, comfortable 3-point gripping system above, below and behind the ear
- New 90° cable management constructed to guide the cable and minimize cable breaks
CORE by DPA Sounds Better
Dynamic range is the range of sound pressure that a microphone can handle without significant distortion. It is measured from the SPL at the noise floor (the mic’s own self-noise) to the SPL at 1% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). At 1% THD, most people listening will be able to detect a change in sound quality.
Since 1% THD is the point that most people can hear a deterioration of audio quality, anything that can raise this point improves the quality. This is exactly what CORE by DPA does – minimizes distortion by expanding the range of sound the microphone can comfortably handle.
This gives users more flexibility by expanding the range of sounds that can be captured. In most cases, sound engineers prefer a mic with a wide dynamic range because they can use one mic to capture a wider range of sounds and in more applications.
- Increased dynamic range = Increased workable range
- Increased dynamic range = Less vulnerable to overload
Advanced new mic design
This tiny capsule has a cap that can be removed for cleaning and should be firmly reattached to the mic body with a firm click that can both be felt and heard. The supplied cap corresponds in its nature to the low-boost grid of our 5 mm (2.1 in) versions. Both the mic itself plus the cap are made of stainless steel and treated with a Physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating that makes it extremely durable: able to tolerate high temperatures, resilient against impacts and resistant to abrasion. The entire mic has a pleasant matte look due to the coating making the entire headset look smaller and less obtrusive.
The cable is often the weak spot on these types of mics, but DPA has opted to use the same size cable (Ø 1.6 mm (.06 in)) and the same rugged cable relief as on our 5 mm (2.1 in) mics. The cables are extremely durable, do not become entangled and are equipped with an inner core made of Kevlar that withstands rough pulls. A strain relief is integrated in the mic housing to strengthen the assembly.
The cable and capsule design ensure immunity to noisy wireless devices. These mics are typically connected to a wireless belt pack and we offer a comprehensive mix of adapters to suit the many wireless transmitters available. When used with an adapter, the connector is our MicroDot but DPA also offers hardwired terminations to suit the most popular systems from manufactures such as Shure and Sennheiser. All of our connectors are equipped with a rugged strain relief.
It’s the only 3 mm (1.2 in) mic that gives you the DPA sonic quality that you know and love.
A bit about omnis
An omnidirectional microphone has sensitivity at all angles – in principle picking up sound equally from all directions. This gives you extremely natural and realistic sound compared to a cardioid mic.
Omnis are most often used in film recording applications and broadcast environments as they pick up the sound most naturally compared to directional microphones. The omni does not suffer from proximity effect and is not as sensitive to wind, pop or handling noise. Even on a live stage, omnis are often used.
Sometimes, omnidirectional microphones are not the first type an audio engineer thinks of when it comes to live performances with a huge PA system amplifying the voice pick-up from an actor. Yet due to the short distance to the sound source (using a hidden bodyworn or headset), very high levels can be obtained with DPA omnis without feedback issues. These mics can be heard on many (very loud) theatre stages, for example on London’s West End and Broadway.
Adapter system gives you flexibility
The adapters for wireless systems give you flexible, simple and affordable possibilities. You are no longer bound to one wireless system. As circumstances change, you can just switch your adapter, instead of incurring the cost of a completely new microphone. When you make the switch, you won’t hear any loss or change in sound quality.
The d:fine™, d:screet™ and d:vote™ series of miniature microphones work with all leading wireless mic solutions, such as Lectrosonics, Sennheiser, Shure, Sony, Wisycom, Zaxcom and many more. DPA Microphones’ ingenious adapter system is one of a kind in the industry. It protects your investment in fantastic sound for years to come. Should you prefer to have your mic hardwired to a specific connector type, DPA offers pre-terminated types for the most popular wireless systems.
